Underground Dog House
I was trying to come up with a solution to protect dog's left out in extreme climates and created the first Ever been in a basement in the summer time? The earth is the best insulator known to man. So Capt. Handyman has a solution for the blistering heat AND the freezing winter months...Underground Dog House!
This was the prototype that was built to help an elderly dog that was too stiff to walk in the morning after sleeping in the cold.
Three feet down it begins with pea gravel for groundwater. Concrete footings and floor comes next. Then cinder block walls filled with concrete. Footing drains that wrap the walls and the interior drain for cleaning are connected to ten feet of leach field to move water away from sub-terranian space. (provides water for a tree in this application)
Walls that have removable panels in key places and vents help with cooling in the summer, re-install for winter. A dog door with ramp for access is installed. Then the roof that opens for cleaning caps it off. Paint to match house or landscape (which in this case the homeowner wanted to do herself) is then applied. Here's what you get...
