There was a time that all I wanted to do was build my dream home that was created on paper. Knowing that all phases of construction would have to be learned, I obtained a job in the underground service industry. After I became foreman of my own crew, decided running heavy equipment and having my own business was the next step. The owner of the multi-million dollar company told me he knew what I was doing when I turned my truck in for a wheel loader and said “I’ll shut you down if you try it here.”
So I went to the Seattle area where family had equipment. Combining the speed of Vegas with the Craftsmanship of old world construction really fit into my goal. Meeting and joining forces with those that had generations of proven ways of construction, all facets were being learned: Clearing the land, concrete foundations, framing, roofing, plumbing and electrical, sheetrock through finish carpentry, landscaping, repairs and remodels. Housing tracks to custom homes, I was learning it all.
I returned to Vegas on vacation and visited my Grandmother. Her home had seen some repairs by Hacks that were here one minute and gone the next. Seemed they had caused more damage or never got it exactly right, causing the need for future repairs. Although I was a General Contractor in the Seattle area, I was not the final say on everything that was done on some projects. Developers that wanted to cut costs would present their request and sometimes I had to walk away from the project because it was just so wrong. I knew what my new goal was to be after the visit. Return to Vegas and repair the things that so many Contractors had done wrong, while taking care of my Grandmother and her home.
By the time I settled up affairs up North and returned, Grandma had a Xeriscape project starting, so I took a class at the Water District and noticed how many things the guy did wrong. She was faced with a huge bill and not qualifying for the rebate. The grass was not killed off, and couldn’t open the shed doors my Grandpa and I built years before. That was the final straw.
Business license and numerous word of mouth referrals has gotten me to the point where I’m no longer showing up AFTER the hacks have done their damage. There are still those that are taking the cheapest bid and suffering because of it. Hacks showing up without the right tools or knowledge of how to repair as if it were their home are costing the people more money in the long run. A simple fix for this is to have qualified Craftsman do the new construction or repairs.
I now have the best network of Craftsman from every field to support me in my quest of repairing things built and constructed wrong in Las Vegas. If a repair is outside of my scheduling, rest assured another true professional is on their way. The phrase is used too often but here it is true. One call and progress is being made to rectify your situation.
Sometimes things just wear out. I believe in replacing parts with the best available products that in my experience have proven themselves. Not the ones that cost the most, but have suppliers that stand behind the product and have the same "bullet proof" goal that I do.
